Coffee Stars by Dao

Located at Wisma Atria Shopping Centre #01-37 to 41, is Coffee Stars by Dao. It is more of a Westernised Thai restaurant and suitable for those who likes Thai food, but not something entirely Thai.

Ambience
Very well decorated and posh. Suitable for coffee-sipping high tea after a day of shopping. All the seats are very comfortable except for the middle one which shares the centre cushion, because tables tend to be close together.. Although the side seats are all exposed to shoppers walking past the lanes beside the restaurant to get to Isetan or shops around, there are usually not a lot of them, so privacy wise, still comfortable enough for me :)

Also suitable for catch up with a big group of friends. See the round seater in the foreground of the picture above? These seats are specially catered for such purposes and it is really a great way to catch up with your 'circle' of friends. And I must say, the seats are really comfortable too! They also have birthday song audio ready which will be played across the whole restaurant if you decide to celebrate birthday for your special someone.

Lobster Squid Ink Pasta
The spaghetti, even though made from squid ink, is void from the "fishy" smell, and doesn't get stained on your teeth, making eating a pleasant experience. Lobster meat is fried but is not very oily. Very tender and succulent, even better if you dip it into the gravy before eating it! Recommend!

Grilled Pork and Sticky rice
I heard the meat was made from black pork. Being in the wild and having a lot of exercising, this kind of pork is usually very springy, which is true for this dish! Go with sauces provided for different tastes of eating it. The rice was served into a cute bamboo basket, portion is small though. The rice was the very sticky kind and may be too bland to go by itself, so don't finish up your pork at one go! This dish is not under the mains (in case you can't find it), it's somewhere under a section before the mains?

Pad-Thai Rice Noodle with shrimp
Very tasty for the first few mouths. As you eat and become more full, because of the oiliness, it makes you feel a little sick..

coffee stars by dao fb

This picture (above) is taken from their Facebook photos and is one of the dish served at their restaurant opening celebration. In the actual serving when you order at Coffee Stars, each of them is actually fatter and a plate comes in about 8-10 pieces.

This is a MUST TRY! First, the skin is very crispy, and has a fragrant fried smell. Taste like popiah skin but it is very thin. Second, and most importantly, the fillings! I think I taste prawn and fish paste? Very succulent and juicy. And there is also a salty seafood taste (海鲜味) to it, so it whets up your appetite. (Salivating already right? ME TOO! ^^) The dip sauce is only mildly spicy, more of a sweet sauce. Goes well with this fried finger food. But I personally prefer to go without it :)

Coconut Pandan Swiss Roll
Another MUST TRY from Coffee Stars is their Coconut Pandan swiss roll! Looks plain and simple, and not as attractive as its 'friends' around. But i assure you that the moment you try it, your perception is bound to change!

The swiss roll cake exudes a strong fragrance of pandan and being freshly made everyday, it is very soft and fresh. The icing sugar on top, together with it being cold from just out from the refrigerator, it feels as if the cake is melting in your mouth. The filling has a mild coconut smell and taste refreshing. With the bits of coconut flesh, eating it is more than simply savouring but also some chewing and biting.

This cake gets sold out very quickly especially during the weekends, so go early to prevent disappointment. Or reserve it! It's definitely worth the effort! (Y)

Price:
A little higher than the usual restaurant. ~ above $15 or $20 for main dish. ~ $10 or above for starters. ~ above $5 for cakes. If you like their food and plan to go often, worth it to sign up for their membership card! (10% off for weekends, 20% off for weekdays) You can do so by spending an amount (gotta check with their staff there) in a single receipt to qualify. Valid for 1 year.
